To Sleep Perchance to Dream

I grew up riding my horse at our ranch; it is among my most enjoyable adventures. Two months ago, I, unfortunately, fell off my horse during one of my usual rides and broke one of my hands. After being discharged from the hospital five weeks ago, I have been experiencing back problems especially when sleeping. My doctor recommended that I get a body pillow to help me relieve the pain when sleeping. When I was advised to try the best full body pillows so that my body could have excellent spine and limb support when sleeping, I did not hesitate looking for one. When you are in need, anything that can help is usually very welcome.

What is His Obsession with Picking His Nose?

Some kid’s habits are best nipped at the bud. If you let them flourish too much, well, then you will have yourself a touch of trouble later on in the future. When my little one started picking his nose, I thought it was something that would go away on its own, like a cold you know. But it did not. Instead, it grew more constant. It started getting me worried until it prompted me to look for information about how to stop a child from picking his/her nose. As I found out, breaking a bad habit in a determined two-year-old is never too easy. So here is what I would advise you to do about it:

Find out the cause of the nose picking

Picture of a child touching his nose

No one is born picking their nose. Most of the time, it happens because the child feels there is something up there in the nose that needs picking. That is why they go right ahead and poke their fingers where they should not. So, if your child has been suffering from a cold, mucus will dry up in the nose forming a crusty layer that so bothers one to pick their nose. In that case, I would try getting the kid to heal from the cold and runny nose and see whether the bad habit is going to stop.

No, yelling does not help at all

Yelling at your kid to stop picking his/her nose is not going to help at all because the kid just feels like he/she wants to pick a fight with you and the result is a battle for supremacy. Therefore, you should always try to motivate the kid from picking his kid using other ways. For example, sit him down and tell him why you think picking the nose is bad for him. Name some reasons like germs, dirt or even his worst fear. Probably most of it will go in through one ear and out through the other. However, one will stick.

Do not punish the child

Some forms of punishment like wrapping the fingers in elastic will not help at all. In fact, no form of punishment is going to help in this case. Punishing may even push the child to do it more especially if he/she is in the rebellious stage of the TT – terrible two. Besides, even the hassle wrapping and unwrapping elastic on the fingers is too much for you as well.

Keep the kids busy with his hands

Kids playing

When grownups are idle, they will be more likely to pick their nose. It is not as if it is something that they set out to do deliberately, it is an unconscious thing. Therefore, when the kids are idle, they are also more likely to pick their nose. Keep the kid busy with his fingers all the time. You had better assign him or her something that she loves to do even if it means keeping them busy with toys.  Building things with clay, playing with balloons and so on should keep the kid busy. This helps a lot.

See the doctor

If the kid picks the nose too much to an extent of drawing blood from their nose, well, it could be a deeper lying problem. Keep a nice clean floor so that the child does not pick infections and transfer them to his nose. However, above that, take the kid to the hospital so that the pediatrician can seek the cause of the intense nose picking.

Cleaning Your Hardwoods

Learning how to keep your hardwood floor clean can give the floor a new leash of life all the time. It is not too hard if you have a few tricks up your sleeves and besides, this ensures that your floor lasts as long as possible. There is something about hardwood. Maybe it is because of that indomitable look that they add to the home, and I find them irresistible. However, it is easy for the wood to lose its appeal if you do not take good care of it.

Here is how to clean hardwood floors and get them to look amazing all the time:

Mopping with water and a mop

picture of a pail with water and mop

There are cleaning solutions for wood floors and when you get one, dilute it according to the manufacturer’s instructions and then use a mop to thoroughly clean the hardwood floor. This kind of cleaning gets rid of the dirt, grease and grime that will have built up over time. Now, this is far much better than just dusting the floor, which just takes care of the dust. In fact, even after you are done mopping, you may want to damp-clean the space with a damp rag. When you are done cleaning, survey around the floor to make sure there is no liquid left standing on the wood as water damages wood.

You must have the right cleaning products

It is very important that you use a product that is made for cleaning a hardwood floor all the time. It would not be very smart to pick a cleaning product meant for PVC tiles, laminate floor or others. Thankfully, you can look for information online and if you cannot, you can always ask for assistance from the store.  Try also using a splash of vinegar in your cleaning water as that helps and does not damage the hardwood floors. Be wary of products meant for other types of floors as such can damage your wood floor.

Know how to clean stains from the hardwood floor

Picture wiping the floor

The first thing you want to do before you get to removing stains is determining the kind of finishing that your floor has. For example, some floors have a urethane finish, which means the stain will be on the surface and will not penetrate the wood. If the floor has an oil finish, the stain will penetrate the floor.

For a floor with a urethane finish, you just have to wipe the floor clean with a small piece of clean cloth. That is all. However, for an oil-finished floor, the cleaning process is a bit different than that as the stain will have been absorbed by the wood. Here is how to clean different types of stains on the oil-finished wood floor:

Oil stainsUse a dishwashing detergent and a soft piece of cloth, which will help break apart the grease. After that, you can rinse the area that you have just cleaned with clean water. If the first cleaning does not work, repeat the process until the grease is gone completely.

For water stains – You need to clean this spot by rubbing it with No. 000 steel wool touched with floor wax but you may also have to sand the spot a bit if the stain has penetrated deeply. You may also use odorless mineral spirits to make the job more thorough.

To clean pet stains and dark spots – Just rub the stained area with steel wool number 000 touched with floor wax. If the area does not brighten up, you can use vinegar or bleach, just touch the area with a cloth dipped in the bleach and let it rest for an hour or so and then rinse the area with a cloth dampened in clean water.
